how to care for your cutting board…
I use my boards everyday… to simply slice lemon for my water, dice the vegetables for my salad or to layout the cheese and crackers for snacking. It is so much easier to cut and arrange all on the same charcuterie board. So as you use your boards, the luster might wear off.
One of my friends called to ask how exactly she should care for her board. Most of our boards are made from locally sourced hard woods like walnut, cherry and maple so they are less water absorbent. The thicker the board the less prone to warping. And with proper care, these boards can last forever. So let’s talk about it…
Washing… the boards can be hand washed with gentle soap and warm water. Wipe with a towel and let stand upright to finish air drying before putting away.
Conditioning… when the boards look like they are drying out, use our conditioning wax by rubbing small amounts in small circles with a lint free towel. Wipe off any excess. Let stand upright to set in and dry for 2-3 days.
Long over due conditioning… when you feel like your board is showing damage, you can lightly sand your board with a 320 grit paper and apply a food safe oil following the directions. After letting that dry, wipe with the conditioning wax to seal.
Deep clean… Sprinkle area with salt. Cut a lemon in half and use the cut side to rub the area until you feel like the stain or odor has disappeared. You can then follow the washing instructions.
Enjoy your boards!
